Michael Rapaport is ready to save New York City. The Atypical star has been vocal in his opposition of Zohran Mamdani, the city’s first Muslim mayor. However, Mamdani’s criticism of Israel as he now faces delivering on ambitious campaign promises, which many have deemed as unrealistic, is too much for Rapaport to take — so much so that the actor wants to replace him. Hyping his political future In Monday’s I Am Rapaport podcast , the host began, “Welcome to the ziggy zone of disruption. My name is Michael Rapaport, a.k.a. Mayor Rapaport. Mr. Mayor Rapaport, a.k.a. The Gringo Mandingo, a.k.a. The Enflamed Ashkenazi, a.k.a. The Sultan of Sniff.” Over the hour-long episode, the Beautiful Girls actor continued to refer to himself as “Mayor Rapaport,” until the final few minutes, when he dropped his bombshell news on confounded listeners. “Let me tell you something, guys, girls, women, children of all ages,” Rapaport began his announcement. “2025 was crazy, and I don’t see it getting any f—ing calmer or cooler in 2026, the way things started. That’s why I’m running for mayor.” Not a surprise The Boston Public actor revealed that he had already “announced my proposal” in an Instagram post on New Year’s Day, the same day Mamdani was sworn in on the Quran . “Born. Raised. NYC. Nothing’s free. No bulls—. No fake grins. I’ll own my mistakes, apologize when I screw up, and fight to make this city safe, affordable, and thriving. You got Zoron the Moron now… Mayor Rapaport is coming.” He also gave a heads-up on the Boundless Insights podcast last week , telling host Aviva Klompas that he would be announcing his “candidacy in the next election for mayor of New York.” Rapaport added: “That’s a hot take headline for you. I am running for mayor.” He then went on to reiterate his plans and how they differ from Mamdani’s. “I’m not gonna let this guy run my city I’m from,” he declared. “Born and raised, New York City. I’m gonna let [people] know off the top ain’t nothing free. Ain’t nothing gonna be for free in my New York City.” Slamming Mamdani for months Rapaport has been trashing Mamdani since he emerged as the Democratic frontrunner last summer, often crudely calling out his Muslim identity and criticism of Israel. In his most recent podcast, Rapaport said: “We have a s— stain at the helm right now. We have a s— stain at the helm right now in New York City, and it is a reality. It is a f—ing reality.” As for what he expects of Mamdani, the Prison Break actor declared: “I think he’s going to supersede our wildest fears and expectations. Zohran the Zero, Zohran the Ziophobe, he is going to supersede all our fears and expectations.” He then asked fans to send in their resumes because he’s “taking it as far as I can take it.” Rapaport also asked to be called Mayor Rap before setting his sights back on Mamdani. “Do I think people are going to be getting chased around New York City with pitchforks? No, but he is softening the palate for so many f—ing things,” the actor noted. “He’s got a huge f—ing ego. He’s got a f—ing evil f—ing grin. And I think he’s up to no good.” RECOMMENDED VIDEO Debra Messing slammed for ‘jihadist’ Zohran Mamdani meme Inside new NYC mayor Zohran Mamdani and wife Rama Duwaji’s radical politics MCCAUGHEY: Zohran Mamdani winning NYC mayor will ravage all of New York state
