My Guarda Wallet Scare
Unstoppable chills

I’ve been using Guarda Wallet on Android for about four years. It was never the fastest app out there, but it let me manage multiple wallets and different currencies without too much hassle. Reliable enough… until it wasn’t.

A few weeks ago I got a new phone and suddenly couldn’t access my main wallet. The usual login just failed. Support suggested trying a VPN, so I remembered I hadn’t whitelisted Guarda in my PersonalDNSFilter app on the new device, so I fixed that. Still nothing. At that point I started thinking the backup file or my password might be wrong. Instant cold sweat.

I opened the web version of Guarda, uploaded the same backup file, entered the same password… and got in immediately. Everything was there.

My first priority was getting the funds out. I installed Unstoppable Wallet, double-checked everything, and moved my coins over. Safe.

But I still wanted to keep control of my old addresses. That’s when things got weird.

Guarda doesn’t support the standard 12 or 24-word seed phrase for migration. Big red flag. Then I tried importing the private key into Unstoppable… and it didn’t work either. Another red flag.

I sent the details to Guarda support, including proof that the backup and password worked perfectly on the web version. After that, they went silent. No more replies.

At this point it barely matters. That wallet now only holds the memory of all the time I spent using it. The funds are safe in the new one, but the experience left a sour taste.

Self-custody is empowering… until the moment something goes sideways and you’re staring at an error screen with your savings on the line. Then it’s just you, your backup file, and a racing heart.

Has anyone else had weird issues with Guarda? Or recommendations for a solid multi-coin wallet that actually respects proper seed phrase standards? I’m all ears  eyes.
