The Legislative Assembly of the Irkutsk region passed a bill allowing the killing of stray animals. It will come into force from October 1. The initiative was introduced by the Association of Mayors, led by Vadim Semenov, the mayor of Cheremkhovo. The law will allow the introduction of an extraordinary situation regime in the region in case of dog attacks on people. During its action, all caught dogs can be killed after 11 days. The mayor of Cheremkhovo tried to justify himself and stated that no law will completely solve the problem with stray animals. "No law will completely solve the problem, a great misfortune that has been accumulating for decades. The Association of Mayors is not for the mindless destruction of animals. This [law] will allow for a certain period in a certain territory to protect our children. Society itself created this problem with its irresponsible attitude towards animals," he said. Protests. At the end of April, a rally was held in Irkutsk with a signature collection against the adoption of the law on euthanasia of stray dogs, in which dozens of local residents participated.
