Gopuff Launches 'Go' Shopping Assistant Powered by SpaceXAI's Grok
Gopuff Launches ‘Go’ Shopping Assistant Powered by SpaceXAI’s Grok Gopuff is betting that customers will trust an AI to quietly build their shopping carts before they even open the app, as Elon Musk’s SpaceXAI pushes deeper into consumer “agentic commerce.”
Early June: Deal revealed and capabilities outlined
On June 3, Axios reported that Gopuff was launching “Go,” an AI shopping assistant that runs on SpaceXAI’s Grok chatbot and can automatically add items to users’ carts based on memory of past orders and real‑time context. Rather than searching for specific items, users can describe scenarios—like hosting a game‑day party or wanting a healthy breakfast—and Go assembles a cart for them.
The report also highlighted that Go can predict when shoppers are running low on staples such as coffee or paper towels, drawing on Gopuff’s warehouse network to deliver in as little as 15 minutes, and even tailor suggestions to factors like local weather or city trends, such as a “snow day” cart. Gopuff emphasized that while Grok powers the assistant, the integration is secured so Grok “can’t be trained on customer data.”
Public launch: Musk and xAI promote “Go”
As the feature rolled out, SpaceXAI’s official X account pitched Go as “your personal shopping assistant that knows what you want and delivers in minutes,” stressing that it is “Powered by Grok text, audio, and image models.” Elon Musk amplified the announcement with a terse endorsement: “Built with Grok,” while sharing Gopuff’s description of Go as an “AI shopping genius, co-developed with SpaceXAI.”
xAI’s technical perspective and global rollout
On June 9, SpaceXAI (xAI) detailed how Go combines Grok’s “frontier reasoning, voice, and image generation” with Gopuff’s 13 years of demand data and “hundreds of millions of orders,” plus real-time signals from X and the web to anticipate needs and deliver from micro-fulfillment centers in minutes. The company said Go can pre-build personalized carts using past preferences and external signals like weather, and learns over time to help users order critical necessities more efficiently.
SpaceXAI also highlighted a new visual shopping feed powered by Grok Imagine, which generates “hyper-realistic scenes” from Gopuff’s inventory to help users picture potential orders. The assistant is now available in the Gopuff app on iOS and Android in the US, with a UK launch to follow.
