Final Fantasy VII Remake Trilogy to Conclude with 'Revelation'
Final Fantasy VII Remake Trilogy to Conclude with ‘Revelation’ Square Enix has set an end date for one of gaming’s most ambitious remakes, confirming that the Final Fantasy VII saga will close with a third entry titled Final Fantasy VII Revelation, due in spring 2027. The announcement crystallizes years of speculation over how the reimagined story will ultimately resolve.
The publisher first tipped its hand during the 2026 edition of Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest Live, a two-hour showcase packed with high‑profile announcements from across the industry, including new looks at Control Resonant and a wave of titles now targeting 2027 to avoid competing with GTA VI. Within that crowded lineup, Square Enix used onstage footage to formally unveil “the third and final game” in its remake trilogy: Final Fantasy VII Revelation.
Chronologically, the new game follows 2020’s Final Fantasy VII Remake and 2024’s Rebirth, promising to bring Cloud Strife’s conflict with Sephiroth to a definitive close. A trailer and extended description outline a world “on the brink of annihilation,” as a meteor scars the sky, colossal planetary guardians ravage the globe, and “the final battle against Sephiroth begins,” with Cloud and his allies fighting to “decide the planet’s fate” and “bring a legendary conflict to its conclusion.”
From a gameplay perspective, Square Enix is positioning Revelation as the trilogy’s most expansive entry, featuring “our most expansive open world yet,” aerial exploration via the Highwind airship, and full party combat that now includes Vincent Valentine and Cid Highwind as playable characters. Players can also expect the new “FITS” gear system — short for “Function Integrated Tactical Suitwear” — which functions like a classic Final Fantasy job system by tying special movesets to different armors.
For fans who have followed the remake project since its debut, Revelation is pitched as the culmination of a “yearslong saga” that has “actually turned out pretty well,” setting expectations that the 2027 release will deliver both narrative closure and the series’ most ambitious world yet.
