Don't use AI just for the sake of using AI.
That's what Amazon exec Dave Treadwell told employees after the company shuttered an internal leaderboard tracking which staff members use AI the most, the Financial Times reports:
Don’t use AI just for the sake of using AI. Amazon has discontinued an internal leaderboard that ranked employees by their AI usage, following directives from executive Dave Treadwell. This decision came about because the leaderboard incentivized staff to assign AI agents to perform unnecessary tasks, a practice known as ‘toxenmaxxing’. The trend reportedly increased Amazon’s computing costs.
