Yesterday night TechTuesday and Nostr relay workshop where nice! We had quite a few contributions on the soapbox. @e6b9e...eaffb about Claude Code, for which he has a fully booked session at @2baf5...6aeec on Friday. Marjon who is realizing one of her wishes to have collection covers in QuodLibet, did this with vibe coding with the same Claude Code. Frank (Wordpress community) shared about accounting for associations, Victor who shared about his event, which is also fully booked, but can be followed via Discord, and finally Bart Roorda shared more extensively about the car sharing he arranged with neighbors. It was great that it was so lively šŸ™‚

As for the session, I did a workshop on setting up your own Nostr relay to be able to share the decentralized network, and soon also the exchange of stories and agendas within @2baf5...6aeec . The software I used turned out to be the English-language wok, strfry https://github.com/hoytech/strfry . I also shared https://www.noip.com/, which allows you to link your own domain or a free subdomain to your dynamic IP address. I also shared https://nostr.net/, where you can find all the different relay software via the ā€˜Relaysā€™ menu, and https://nostr.watch/, which provides an overview of most relays.

This was also a learning experience for me, as many questions arose about how we were going to implement Nostr in Wondersofwork.nl. Not entirely relay-related, but interesting questions nonetheless. This is something Iā€™ll be discussing further with Wonders of Work.

Finally, we had a little time left for Tech Tuesday itself, but we didnā€™t really get around to it. The plan is to move it to a 3th Wednesday of the month. #TechTuesday #Workstr #Wonderstr

Itā€™s at a point now where itā€™s almost impossible for me to use the ā€œregularā€ internet. I canā€™t access half the sites. The reason? I care about my digital hygiene and thus use a VPN. Sometimes switching to a different VPN or switching the country of the VPN works; other times it does not. Oh well, I guess Iā€™m not going to watch that video, or read that article, or look at that picture. Whatever.

In addition to that, if Iā€™m not blocked completely, I have to prove that Iā€™m human every step of the way. Captchas, re-captchas, Cloudflare checkboxes, the whole shebang. I am human. I promise. And I am very annoyed. Outright angry, even. I doubt that any robot will ever be as annoyed as I am right now about the current state of the internet.

What annoys me most, actually, is that all these measures donā€™t really work. Thereā€™s bots everywhere. Robots get access to the stuff anyway, using farms of humans, just like in the good old days of WoW gold farming. The centralized ā€œsafetyā€ nets of Cloudflare et al brought down large swaths of the internet multiple times in the last couple of weeks alone, and as things centralize more and more these outages will happen more and more.

Iā€™m very close to breaking up with the legacy internet. Iā€™m human, I can cryptographically prove that Iā€™m human, and I have sats to spend. But the legacy internet doesnā€™t care about that. It cares about farming me and my data, while annoying me to no end. Iā€™ve been nostr only for a while now, but that was only on the ā€œsocial mediaā€ side. 2026 might be the year where I go nostr-only for everything, or to phrase it slightly differently: permissionless for everything.

No more ā€œare you human?ā€ No more ā€œIā€™m sorry, Dave. Iā€™m afraid I canā€™t do that.ā€ No more cookie banners, paywalls, and AI slop. No more being treated like a child.

Even if it means that Iā€™ll have to self-host everything. Even if it means that Iā€™ll have to build & maintain stuff myself. Even if it means that itā€™s a lot of work and pain.

Nothing worth having ever comes easy. But the easy stuff is not worth having in the first place.

Hereā€™s to the year to come, and the new corner of the internet, build on cryptography and webs-of-trust. Real value. Real connections. Real humans.

My interest in Nostr has lost its spark. I think Iā€™m done being curious about it.

I donā€™t know if itā€™s because I have a growing family I want to dedicate 100% of all that I have on them or Nostr and the internet in general have never really added any lasting value to my lifeā€¦ unless of course if itā€™s necessary for work.

This is my personal call to retreat from the digital life and live fully offline in the real. Iā€™ve always known this time was coming and I believe that time has come.

gm, people often ask me: Uncle, how are you so successful when it looks like you are just traveling the world and having fun all the time?

My answer is simple: chase work with people you like and who inspire you.

Once you get into the desired setup, be relentless. Do whatever it takes to hit the goal you agreed on, in the timeframe set. When it is done, rinse and repeat.

The most important part is not getting stuck on failures (they will happen) or with people who no longer inspire you (maybe you no longer inspire them).

What is tragic is that most people today just need:

  1. a small push toward the right group&goal with clear equity
  2. knowledge on how to generate the energy needed to get momentum going

Luckily, the Christmas season and New Yearā€™s resolutions are ahead of us. Everyone reading this can be wildly successful in 2026 while having tons of fun. And if you canā€™t do it alone, plan a trip to Plan B El Salvador. Uncle will be there taking questions, giving answers, and lifting weights šŸ’Ŗ

You know, it reminds me of us on Nostr.

Some people, myself included, sometimes complain: there arenā€™t many of us, value for value still doesnā€™t work very well, Nostr client is unstable. But one thing is certain: we are the first.

To be completely honest, thatā€™s also what motivates me. I missed the early days of Bitcoin. I missed the early days of YouTube. I missed the early days of TikTok, then Twitch. Each time, it was the same scenario.

This time, on Nostr, I wonā€™t let my chance slip away.

Itā€™s going to explode, itā€™s inevitable. The more governments censor social media, the more Nostr will naturally find its place in the world.

2. Gitplaza - v0.26.0

Gitplaza is a desktop Nostr client focused on managing Git-related activity. This release adds support for rendering patch diffs and revisions, displays Markdown in patch views and comments, includes patches in activity and inbox filters, differentiates patch revisions from root patches, and shows e-tag or a-tag Git references in the event view. Performance improvements reduce unnecessary Git status queries, and bug fixes ensure comments and self-referencing tags are properly handled, making code review, collaboration, and tracking more efficient for users.
