The Editor That Quietly Learned to Publish

Rinbal's minimal texteditor is a clean Python writing app for Linux, Mac, and Windows. I forked it and added Nostr: pick an account, hit publish, approve on your phone, and your note or long-form article goes straight to the relays you chose.
The Editor That Quietly Learned to Publish

I just wanted a calm place to write.

minimal texteditor by Rinbal was already that. A clean Python/PySide6 app for Linux, macOS, and Windows. Tabs, dark/light theme, bold/italic/underline with the buttons lighting up at the cursor, bullet lists, find bar, line numbers, syntax highlighting, drag-and-drop, export to .txt/.pdf/.md/.rtf. Crash recovery in the background. Session restore on next launch.

It’s the kind of editor you forget you’re using. That alone made it my daily driver.

So I forked it and gave it a second mouth.

The twist: Nostr publishing, built in

Finish your text. Hit publish. Pick the account. Approve. It’s live.

  • Short thought? Goes out as a Nostr note.
  • Long piece? Same flow, published as a long-form article. Curate it later in STANDUP. It’s indexed and readable in Habla, YakiHonk, every long-form client.
  • Multiple identities? Add as many as you want. Switch with a click.
  • Keys? Never touch the editor. Bunker signing (NIP-46): your phone holds the key, the editor just asks permission.
  • Relays? It reads your own NIP-65 list and publishes where you said to.

No browser tab. No copy-paste. No “which platform did I post that to.” Writing and publishing are the same gesture.

Why this is the cool part

Most editors stop at the save button. Most social apps cage you in a compose box. This one is a full editor first, and then, quietly, it puts the open internet one keystroke away.

Twitter has 280 characters and an algorithm. Nostr has whatever you want to say and the relays you chose. Same window for both.

Credit where it’s due: the editor is Rinbal’s work at github.com/rinbal/my_editor. The Nostr layer is my fork on top.

Write something. Hit publish. That’s the whole thing.
